  • Christmas Day 2020, X51 Mission Accomplished!

Seasons Greetings, Black Prince followers, I hope you are all having a great time over the festive weekend!... The Christmas Day X51 bus service operated successfully for the 6th year in a row and having become somewhat a Christmas tradition for the people of Morley since that initial test run in 2015, "Covid" the Christmas Grinch was not about to bring an end to the red and yellow bus service! The initial trial for 2015 was subjected to horrendous weather conditions, which of course developed throughout the day to become those awful boxing day floods. Thankfully, 2020 brought bitterly cold but very nice conditions, with a bright blue sky and sunshine for the whole day, enabling some fantastic photographic records of the days service. The bus in use was Mercedes-Benz, P441 SWX, previously prepared to satisfy the latest Covid-19 regulations, social distancing and hand cleansing facilities installed as required. 23 passengers were carried throughout the day, significantly less than usual but more than I had expected to use the service. Thanks to Noel Bullock, Morley, information was communicated to the Yorkshire Evening Post website with a little bit about what we were doing during the day. Link > https://www.facebook.com/YEP.newspaper Huge thanks to all who helped with preparations or during the day, helping those who travelled get there safely. Posted are some photographs I managed to snap during the day - you'll next have chance to travel on board a Black Prince bus NYD 2021, route 87 between Morley and the White Rose Centre - TT posted below... (Covid permitting!) Cheers All!...

  • Festive Season 2020/2021

Great News!... You'll find a Black Prince bus at your service during the festive season. On Christmas Day 2020, the X51 will work between Morley and Leeds every hour, extending to Morley Tingley Mills and the hospitals at LGI/Jimmy's every other hour. As the year has developed rather differently to how we all expected, I have decided to reduce the amount of running on Christmas Day 2020, but I do still wish to provide a link between Morley, Leeds and the hospitals for at least some part of the day, roughly between 1000-1500. I do hope that these morning/early afternoon journeys can still benefit our regular Christmas passengers and hospital workers who have been able to make use of the free bus service over the last few years. Please remember that the bus will stop at all bus stops along the route if required, the service is not exclusively for hospital visitors, all passengers are welcome on board. To comply with the current Covid-19 advice, the bus will be disinfected, run with a reduced seating capacity for spacing reasons and passengers will be required to sanitise hands before boarding and wear their face covering on board. The New Year's Day 2021 service is yet to be confirmed as a possibility - again I would love to be able to provide some kind of service during NYD, I await instruction as to the status of the White Rose Centre on this day and shall update in due course. Ideally, the 87 would run as previously during White Rose Centre opening hours, linking Morley Railway Station, Morley Town Hall and Churwell to the WRC. Both of these bus services will replicate former Black Prince routes with special alterations to serve the hospitals and the railway station in Morley I'm extremely proud to be able to offer these services once again and take this chance to thank everyone involved with helping to make it a possibility. Timetable for the festive season services coming shortly, stay tuned...

  • R.I.P John Wright 1952-2020

Dear readers, it’s been an incredibly difficult time recently, having been involved with caring for my good friend of many years, John Wright, who sadly passed away Friday 10/07/20 as a result of his short battle with cancer... John was an avid transport enthusiast and I’m sure many of you will know him as the face of Pennine motor services in the preservation scene. John’s funeral was on Wednesday 22/07/20 and was for limited numbers due to the Covid-19 rules. To enable colleagues and friends to pay respects to John, his hearse was parked at Huddersfield railway station (where John was station supervisor for many years) front between 0900-0915 before heading off to the crematorium. A Black Prince bus, complete with John's initials on the destination and John’s Pennine Dart accompanied the hearse to the crematorium. During the time myself and a small group of friends cared for John, we received the excellent back up of the Marie Curie team, the care was second to none and I have set up a Just Giving page for donations in lieu of flowers in case anyone would like to show support for those fantastic carers. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/john-wright-rip?fbclid=IwAR3hRtJ3_lQlOThJEYTcL1ymUtytv8Ok25ukZOT2HWkdnbFjUPnNER1Z8Kk Guys, you never know what is around the corner, best wishes all... Bradley.

  • The Wetherby Wanderers 2020

Thank you to all who supported the Wetherby running day on Sunday July 5th 2020. The day went ahead against all odds, being hugely successful and providing a long awaited re-entry into circulation of classic buses after the C-19 lockdown easement. Several classic buses provided a free service, slotting between the regular Leeds-Wetherby timetabled buses provided by Transdev (7) Metro hosted our classic buses at Leeds CBS, the bus station staff being most helpful and extremely supportive of our event. The C-19 regulations in place meant the original plan for the event would be totally re-thought, the final plan including :- .Sanitisation of buses at each terminus .Social distancing measures placed on all vehicles by the exclusion of alternate seats .Travel on buses by application only to mitigate against the possibility of gatherings and Queueing .Reduced timetable and extra layover at terminus to provide time for cleaning A most pleasing bonus was the appearance of our old friend "the sun" for most of the day, giving some great roadside photo opportunities along the way!. If the C-19 pandemic rolls on for the forseeable future, this event could well be a strong mould to transfer across to other bus events in the future-we shall see... Buses involved during the day :- Black Prince, Mercedes 0405 P441SWX Black Prince, Mercedes 0405 N577EUG Black Prince, Volvo Ailsa TRR814R Harrogate & District, Volvo B10B M393VWX Bournemouth, Leyland Atlantean ORU230G

  • Covid-19 update "The Leeds Running Day 2020"

The Leeds event is cancelled this year, after consultation with all partner organisations, the event was deemed impractical to organise at this time, considering the volume of passengers carried last year and the current situation with the possible resurgence of the C-19 virus. Although all sites are currently closed UFN, Leeds Museums & Galleries hope to re-open soon when sufficient staffing levels and measures can be put in place to ensure the safety of all visitors. Further info @ https://museumsandgalleries.leeds.gov.uk/coronavirus-information/ The Middleton Railway intend to re-commence operations from the 2nd of August 2020, C-19 permitting. • Route Ramble, Thursday 30th July 2020

30th July 2005 saw the operation of Black Prince buses draw to a close, having been a huge part of the public transport scene since 1969. This sad day will be marked on Thursday 30th July 2020, with a "Route Ramble" across former Black Prince routes, with refreshment halts for those who wish to indulge!. As with the previous Wetherby running day, ridership shall be by application only, with names drawn out of the hat to limit numbers and comply with latest SD regulations. Please mail to blackprincebuses@outlook.com to apply to ride!.

  • "The Wetherby Wanderers" Final Plan...

Dear Readers, I have finalised the plan for this weekends classic bus running day over the Leeds-Wetherby corridor, as previously advertised I now have a social distancing plan in place on the preserved buses. The capacity of each bus will be reduced by 50%, to enable passengers to spread out in compliance with the latest government guidance surrounding the Covid-19 issue. It will only be possible to travel on the buses by application via email to blackprincebuses@outlook.com, a draw will be made on Friday and each successful applicant will be contacted with a time to join a bus trip from Leeds City BS. This measure has been placed to prevent the possibility of a large gathering of people resulting in a violation of Government guidance. If there are spare seats on any of the services after all applicants have been informed, I will make this known on the blog. The final timetable will see the preserved buses leaving Leeds at xx25 past the hour, with gaps in the timetable planned in to prevent our buses conflicting with the Transdev service buses which are currently operating a 90 minute interval service. Our buses will run from Leeds to Wetherby, where a 55 minute break will allow travellers to enjoy a fish and chip stop at the Wetherby Whaler or a walk around the newly reopened town centre. Passengers must make sure they're back in time for the return working of their booked service to head back to Leeds. The latest guidelines mean bus passengers must wear face masks and sit apart from other passengers. Please do comply with the latest Government advice, we all really want this event to be a success and a possible way to re-introduce classic buses to the roadscene in greater numbers and in compliance with new restrictions. You'll find a Black Prince volunteer in the bus station at Leeds during most of the day, if any information is required. I hope to see plenty of nice roadside photos after the event and wish all participants an enjoyable day. Thank you for your understanding and patience with the short notice alterations and restrictions we are currently working with. Good Luck, Bradley.

  • Covid-19 Update "The Wetherby Wanderers"

Wetherby Update (Sat June 27 2020) Hello Everyone, Considering the latest review of UK Government Covid-19 related advice to commence Sat 4th July 2020, I have decided to go ahead with the Wetherby Running Day on Sun 5th July 2020 but subject to the following special operating conditions, mostly designed to accomodate Covid-19 safety regulations. The service will be much reduced from the original plan, but will still run along the route and to a timetable (to be published ASAP) There will be opportunity to ride on the buses, but I have decided the best way to organise this to fit with the widely adopted public transport social distance measures would be to allocate places on buses by invitation only, with names pulled out of a hat (then invite sent to the selected person) for fairness... (enthusiasts who are unable to ride the buses will of course be able to video or photograph from the streetside) I shall be publishing this information additionally on the Black Prince website with a view to grasping as many company enthusiasts as possible to give a fair coverage. The reason I am doing this, is to mitigate against the risk of large gatherings of prospective passengers which could be construed as inciting a gathering-this way, only the invited passengers will ride the buses from Leeds. When the names are pulled from the hat, I shall allocate a journey accordingly and notify the required person. The buses will run to a set circuit, Leeds-Wetherby-Bramham-Wetherby-Leeds. I know this arrangement is not how the event was intended to pan out, but we have to work within limitations, also I cannot take the risk of hundreds coming to Q for buses which I would deem unacceptable right now. I feel this is a great compromise and a good way for as many people to enjoy a ride or the sights and sounds of the buses on the Wetherby service once again-this running day will be the first classic bus day for several months both locally and nationally, so it could go either way i.e quiet or busy, so again I say the risk of hundreds coming along and forming Q's cannot be taken. If you would like the chance to join one of the services, please do the following ... E-Mail blackprincebuses@outlook.com with your name and contact details, you'll be entered into the draw and informed IF you have been chosen to ride. Thank you all for your support and consideration with revised arrangements, I hope as many of us as possible can enjoy a revised social distance day out!. Bradley.
