Volunteers required for the Leeds running day 14/08/22 both for running day preparation and assistance on the day The most pressing issue right now is that certain areas along the route which are required for bus stabling need vegetation clearance and tidying up, the site manager has asked if we could group together and form a working party to action this requirement on a date TBC. Is anyone interested in coming along to help out, primarily at the Thwaite Mill site where most vehicle movements will take place? If you would like to get involved please mail blackprincebuses @ outlook.com and I shall send further info when the work date is confirmed. Cheers for now!

In Welcome!
Hey everyone, welcome to the new forum section of my Black Prince history website. I'm Bradley and have been a Black Prince enthusiast for many years, becoming involved with the company from a very early age, right through to closure in 2005. It didn't stop there, my interest in Black Prince prompting me (with a little encouragement from David Crowther) to take the big step to save my favourite fleet member (577) from scrap in 2015. From there, I have collected other former Black Prince buses, often with a huge amount of help from others and gradually they'll reappear on the road in fleet colours. I'd love to see some input here on this forum with the chance to talk about company history and build on what is already documented here online. This space is also set to remember the history of other transport operators which ran alongside Black Prince. Cheers everyone, hope to chat soon!

A newspaper clipping courtesy of Driver Michael Nash, taken from the Yorkshire Evening Post of Friday 25th September 1992. At that time, little did Harry know he would be working for Black Prince two years later, when Brian made the move to purchase the operations of Amberley Travel. Harry continued to work the Hunslet Carr route which became the 59 Hunslet Circular. When the 59 finished, Harry made the 424 Morley "Shophopper" Circular his home until he retired.

In Black Prince 1969-1986
UHO3 came to Black Prince during February 1972. The coach was an AEC Reliance chassis carrying a rather nice Harrington Wayfarer 4 C41F body. The Reliance was purchased from the famed Yorkshire Dales operator Ezra Laycock, who by early 1972 were preparing to sell their business to equally famous Dales operator, Pennine Motor Services, Gargrave. This coach stayed in the fleet at Black Prince for around one year, moving on in February 1973 to S Hughes (Dealer) and ultimately to the Inverness area. Would anyone happen to have anymore information on the history of this fine vehicle after life at Black Prince? An interesting history of Ezra Laycock can be found here... http://www.lthlibrary.org.uk/library/PDF-184-1.pdf I'm sure that is a nice bedtime read for any of us who may be interested in quirky bus business! This photograph is from the B Crowther collection.

Hey All. I've been following with great interest the epic journey being made by Adam Smith and friends, who have travelled from the UK to the UK - raine in recent days! I'm sure many of you will already be aware of this project but if not, Adam - along with project organiser, railway employee (and former owner of North Somerset Coaches) David Fricker and a small group of volunteers have taken a Volvo 9700 coach (GDZ435) - branded "Teddybusz" all the way from South West England to the border near Lviv. The Volvo has been stuffed with cuddly toys destined for the Ukrainian children displaced by the Putin land grab and subsequent invasion of their homes. The teddies "and friends" have been donated over recent weeks and placed in storage, with the use of the Volvo being facilitated by Greenslades coaches. The amount of donations seems to have been epic and I'm certain these lovely toys will at least give those poor children a little smile and a friend to cuddle up to in the light of the nonsense they are having to go through right now. The Teddybusz departed Britain (Portsmouth) on Sunday evening, docking in Caen, France and heading through Europe via France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Czecho, Slovakia and finally into Hungary where the operation will be based. The plan is to distribute the toys at churches and other refugee shelters along the Hungary/Ukraine border area over the coming days, with the coach being used as required once the toys and aid are/is distributed. It is awesome to see such amazing and honestly brave operations happening right now to help those poor folk who have been attacked by Vlad Putin - Adam Smith and co will be literally a few miles from the advancing army and it really does deserve high praise what these guys are doing to help those children feel a little more comfortable in the worst conditions. There are some interesting links below, I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing them a safe return after the epic mission is completed. One more thing... If you want to help in some way, there is a bank account link here which goes directly toward fuel contributions to keep the Volvo 9700 fed for the journey!... In Event Information
Good Evening All!... As the first post on this new forum, I'm delighted to provide an update and some information about the Leeds Running Day, planned to happen on Sunday 14th August, 2022. It is great to be able to get the event kickstarted again, after the awful time we have been through with the C-19 virus and tragic losses to the ranks of organising and volunteering staff over the last couple of years. This year, I'll be partnering up with W.R.O.M.T (https://www.dewsburybusmuseum.org/) and of course the Leeds museums so we shall be sharing our experience with an aim to improve and change a few things around - but not deviate too far from the original idea of the event - to link Leeds heritage sites together using Leeds (and district) heritage transport! There's plenty of ideas on the table and as things progress I'll keep posting updates here on my new Black Prince enthusiasts forum, on the news blog and also Dewsbury bus museum will be able to relay information to a wide audience, keep an eye on the websites for updates. I hope plenty of you can make it along on the day, enjoy riding a bus or two and spend some time exploring our superb Leeds historical places which are sadly often quietly forgotten about by Leeds City Council and we all need as much support as we can get! The poster below is a JPG so should be shareable - please spread the word and let your friends know what will be happening on the day, it's an ideal cheap day out for the family and the children love to ride on the old buses and explore the attractions, its certainly been a huge hit in the past! If you're a vehicle owner or organisation you'll also find an entry form* down the page which can be downloaded, filled in then emailed back across to myself or sent by Royal Mail as you prefer. *Please note that parking is very limited at this event and most vehicles will be required to run in service during the day. In terms of volunteering, if you'd be up for lending a hand, please get in touch with myself (blackprincebuses@outlook.com) or Dewsbury bus museum via their website to offer your time to help us with tasks as required. Further news to come as things develop with the planning! Cheers for now Bradley
